Recommendations of sodium pyruvate oral rehydration solutions for the treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019

Abstract:

The outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 has brought harms to worldwide. Oral rehydration solution (ORS) recommended by WHO, has been used in the treatment of diarrhea and burns and to prevent and treat Ebola infections in Africa, strongly illustrating its safety and effectiveness. Coronavirus Disease 2019 causes excessive systemic inflammation, resulting in lung damage and respiratory failure. The therapeutic strategy for Coronavirus Disease 2019 focuses on anti-virus, anti-inflammation and supportive care of organ function. The author research team replaced WHO original bicarbonate or citrate salt with equal molecular weight pyruvic acid salt to make pyruvate oral rehydration solution (Pyr-ORS). Through a series of animal experiments for more than 10 years, it has been proved that Pyr-ORS has the functions of anti-hypoxia, anti-acid, ant-inflammation, increasing visceral blood perfusion and protecting multiple organ functions, etc. It may plays a certain role in the comprehensive supportive treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019, which is worthy of recommendation.
