Research progress in the treatment of humeral shaft fractures

Abstract

Abstract:

Humeral shaft fractures are mainly treated by conservative treatment, open reduction and plate fixation, percutaneous minimally invasive plate fixation, intramedullary nail fixation, external fixation and so on. Nonunion and radial nerve injury are common complications of humeral shaft fractures. The best treatment of humeral shaft fracture is still controversial. Various treatment methods of humeral shaft fracture have their own advantages and disadvantages. Clinicians should formulate individualized treatment plan for different patients according to the patient′s own situation, fracture type and their own experience. This article reviews the anatomy of humeral shaft, conservative treatment, surgical treatment, indications, contraindications, clinical efficacy and complications of humeral shaft fractures.
