Progress on perioperative treatment of open calcaneal fractures

Abstract:

Open calcaneal fractures are often accompanied by high energy trauma, because of the complex anatomy of the posterior foot, with the characteristics of high incidence of infection and other complications. Surrounding soft tissues damage increases in open calcaneal fractures, and improper handling can lead to wound infection, osteomyelitis, and even amputation, potentially damaging. How to seek the balance between repair of soft tissue damage and fracture reduction and internal fixation to recovery the posterior foot bone structure and save the hindfoot function based , and to maximize the protection of surrounding soft tissue, reduce the infection rate is the key to the treatment of open calcaneal fractures, orthopedics doctor is also facing great challenges. This review summarizes the relevant research and progress on perioperative infection control of open calcaneal fractures in recent years.
