Advantages and role of the Department of Burns in fighting against the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019

Abstract:

Since the outbreak and spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 epidemic in Wuhan in December 2019, Department of Burns, Tongren Hospital of Wuhan University & Wuhan Third Hospital has taken the advantages and rich experiences of intensive care, treatment of organ failure, life support, multidisciplinary team working and disaster relief. During the epidemic, Tongren Hospital of Wuhan University & Wuhan Third Hospital was requisitioned as Coronavirus Disease 2019 fixed-point hospital. As the only remained burns department in Hubei province, Department of Burns, Tongren Hospital of Wuhan University & Wuhan Third Hospital sent a large number of medical staff to fight the Coronavirus Disease 2019, and admitted all the critical patients from other departments of the hospital, who could not be discharged. In the successful completion of the epidemic fighting and burns care work, there was no coronavirus infection among burn patients, accompanying family members and medical staff, and the burns department have played a good role of national key burn specialties in combating the Coronavirus Disease 2019.
