By the 1980s, with the joint efforts of Chinese burn medical workers, many original achievements were world famous, burn medical workers established complete burn treatment systems with distinctive Chinese characteristics in line with China′s national conditions, the therapeutic effect was good. In recent years, establishment of critical care department and rapid development, had a significant and far-reaching impact to severe burns treatment. Burn care units in some large burn departments develop into burn intensive care unit(ICU) in modern sense, burn medical workers combining burn treatment experience with the theory and practice of critical care medicine, a large number of studies on severe burns have been carried out, good therapeutic effects have been achieved. At the same time, many burn care units in small and medium-sized burn departments have not been upgraded, severe mass burn patients in major accidents sometimes will be admitted to comprehensive ICU for rescue and treatment. Therefore, promoting the discipline development of severe burns and further improving the setting and management of burn ICU has become a hot issue.
